Maury Ornest, the brother of Didi Hirsch Board member Laura Ornest, was a minor league baseball player and prolific painter who struggled with paranoia and delusions before he died of heart disease last summer at age 58. After his death his family discovered secret storage units containig over 1,000 paintings and hundreds of sketchbooks and journals that illuminate his experience with mental illness. The Ornest family donated 11 of his paintings to our Erasing the Stigma Awards. All sales benefit Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services.
